Frankie Bray for Senate

Frankie Bray is honoured to run as the Animal Justice Party’s Lead Senate Candidate for South Australia in the upcoming Federal Election.

Frankie lives and works on Kaurna country in Adelaide, where she was born and raised (primarily in the Western suburbs).

Frankie is a PhD candidate at the University of Adelaide, where her research is focussed on the Animal Welfare Act 1985 (SA) and the Animal Welfare Regulations 2012 (SA) and their failure to protect non-human animals. She also teaches at the Adelaide Law School where she completed her Bachelor of Laws, and has previously been admitted as a solicitor to the Supreme Court of South Australia and practiced as a lawyer prior to entering academia.

In addition to her research and teaching, Frankie is the Deputy Chair of the Animal Law Committee of the Law Society of South Australia and sits on the Executive Committee of the Australasian Animal Law Teachers and Researchers Association. She has been active in the Animal Justice Party since 2021 and ran in the Federal and State elections in 2022 as well as the Dunstan by-election in 2024.

Frankie has been very active in advocating for legislative change. In her role as submissions lead during her time as Secretary of the Animal Justice Party South Australia State Committee, she prepared lengthy submissions to Government consultations on issues such as greyhound racing, duck hunting, and the new Animal Welfare Act 2024 (SA). She is passionate about law reform as a pathway for achieving change for animals and has a strong platform in respect of other social justice issues also.

At home, Frankie is a single mother to two daughters, one canine son and a fluffy feline. She has spent several years caring for foster puppies and dogs through local rescues – when her schedule permits – and is surprised to have only succumbed to one foster fail (so far). She comes from a low socio-economic background and is familiar with the issues that can arise as a result of circumstances out of individual control. She also has personal experience with domestic and family violence which fuels her fight for social justice and informs her strong belief in the values of kindness, equality, rationality, and non-violence.
