Philip Crawford, Candidate for Ranges Ward, Adelaide Hills Council

I am running for Council as to ensure the Adelaide Hills continues to be the best place to live, work and play. Having moved here over seven years ago; my family and I found our forever home. When I walk through our beautiful streets or parks, or drive through our picture perfect valleys, I can’t help but pinch myself to actually live in this amazing place.

Since moving to the Adelaide Hills my family immediately felt part of this community. From the initial welcoming of our neighbours through to the community child care, school and local sporting clubs, I have been fortunate to meet so many of the diverse and wonderful people that make up the Adelaide Hills. I have volunteered as a moddies coach at Uraidla Football Club for the past two years, and was a member of our school’s P&F, and as a CFS volunteer.

Along with my desire to serve this wonderful community, my 25 years’ experience consulting in a wide range of engineering and business leadership roles across diverse industries will make me an effective Councillor, and I would relish the opportunity to represent my community in the Adelaide Hills Council.

Whilst there are many issues that are important to me, my focus as a Councillor can be distilled into: Action on climate change and species extinction and; growing and strengthening our community.

Action on climate change and species extinction – global problems require local solutions and I will do my utmost to ensure council does more to tackle these important issues, including:

  • Reducing food miles: Supporting local growers with greater access to local market (ie funding local cold stores and distribution networks)
  • Reviewing and streamlining waste management practices (do we really still need the Blue bins collected weekly, introduction of 10c bottle collection bin)
  • Protecting and enhancing wildlife corridors (including compensating landowners to maintain / improve them if on private land)

Growing and strengthening our community

  • Supporting more local events which celebrate our elderly residents
  • Provide more support to local sporting and community groups (fix our Ovals so they can be used in Winter)
  • Finding solutions to housing affordability in the area (keeping generations together)
  • Supporting low income residents and single parents with cost of living pressures (Rate relief, connecting to local support groups, veterinary care support etc..)

Voting in your council election plays an important role in protecting and shaping your local community.

Council elections are postal voting only. Your ballot paper will be mailed to you. Your vote must be received between Friday 14 October 2022 and 5pm Thursday 10 November 2022 - I recommend posting it by Thursday 3 November to ensure it’s received in time.

Don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions, or would like to share your thoughts and concerns of local issues.
