On 9 November 2021, a shed caught fire in Carisbrook in Central Victoria. Inside it, an estimated 45,000 hens suffered an agonising death in the smoke and flames.
Many reports said the shed couldn't be saved, with no mentions of the individual lives inside. We want justice for them.
We're calling for an immediate investigation into how this happened, and for urgent action on factory farming in Victoria.
While these hens were in a barn-laid set up - they were still confined to a high density shed, to darkness, and prevented from exercising so many of their natural instincts.
On top of this, and despite bans and phase-outs taking place across the world, Australia still has not even banned battery cages in egg farming.
