AJP Eastern Regional Group is proud to present a screening of
Kangaroo - The Movie.
This groundbreaking film reveals the truth surrounding Australia’s love-hate relationship with its beloved icon. The kangaroo image is proudly used by top companies, sports teams and as tourist souvenirs, yet when they hop across the vast continent some consider them to be pests to be shot and sold for profit. KANGAROO unpacks a national paradigm where the relationship with kangaroos is examined.
Kangaroos are a native species in Australia, who are on the receiving end of some incredibly violent, destructive and torturous activity.
Not only are they hunted down and hit by cars, but there are countless kangaroos being 'land locked' by habitat shrinkage and encroaching estate development.
One of these areas where they are losing their homes is Epping, where there is a dedicated group of people trying to to give the roos a chance from being killed - by trying to get them relocated. We thank the Australian Society for Kangaroos for their amazing work over the years to try stop the needless killing of these incredible animals.
We are thrilled to have one of the volunteers on the Epping team, Alistair Brown, a wonderfully compassionate vet (who is one of the few vets who actually attends to companion fish!), come and speak about about the situation as it currently stands, and approach taken to try to block permits that were granted to shoot them. We will have a Q and A after the screening.
Our government is trying to put terrible anti-wildlife laws in place , and we are constantly battling for the rights of all animals' lives to be considered as Australian and for them to have the right to life with little interference.
ALL welcome.
Doors open at 3pm for finger food nibbly's and drinks (drinks are at bar prices) with the movie starting at 4pm. Q and A will be held after the movie.
Please note this is a fundraiser for the Animal Justice Party.
