Alice Shore for Schubert

Since the age of about four, Alice Shore has been speaking out on behalf of animal rights. She joined Animal Liberation in the 1970s in NSW, was one of the founders of Animal Liberation SA in the early 1980s, and has been a passionate advocate for animals ever since.
Alice has lived most of her life in rural South Australia and has a special interest in farming. Over the years, she has developed an understanding of the complexities of farming and the challenges faced by those making a living in our rural communities.
This has resulted in her developing a dialogue with local farmers, addressing them at meetings (Wunkar). By co-operating with the Farmers’ Union, Alice was able to produce a
documentary about animal husbandry and the need to stop live sheep export.
Alice firmly believes more should be done to help farmers transition away from animal agriculture towards more plant-based food production that earns them a decent income, while protecting our environment and protecting South Australia’s food future.
A retired teacher, Alice loves talking about animals and the environment. She was a regular guest on the ABC Country Hour and the ABC Religious Hour. She has had numerous
articles and poems about animal rights published in literary magazines.
These days, she can be found conversing with the public at the markets in Schubert about what we can all do to make South Australia a better place for people and animals.
