Keep our Waterways Safe - Duck Shooting has no Place in SA
South Australia's recreational duck shooting is not a sport; it is the legalised, indiscriminate killing of native wildlife, whose populations are already in dangerous decline.
It has been demonstrated time and time again that it is impossible to effectively police the actions of duck shooters. Shotguns rarely kill outright. Their job is to bring down a duck so it can be killed, if the shooter can catch it.
Catch a sample of ducks in any shooting area, before the season begins, and you will find many of them with pellets embedded in their bodies from prior wounding. Many others will die slowly from such wounds.
The majority of South Australians want their Members of Parliament to ban this atrocious activity. Yet despite continually failing community expectations, the interests of an extremely small number of people are prioritised. It is time to ban native bird hunting in South Australia
