James Thomson for Mount Gambier

James Thomson is a semi-retired English teacher who has lived in the Mt Gambier electorate (Tarpeena) for 63 years.

James is a passionate advocate for animals and nature and has been actively involved in campaigns to end duck shooting for many years, including participating in the SA Government’s Duck Shooting Inquiry, where he provided local insights around the harm that duck shooting does to ducks and the local waterways.

James believes that much more needs to be done to preserve wildlife and habitat in South Australia, and that animals and nature need far better representation in Parliament. He also believes that people living in aged care facilities should not be forced to separate from their companion animals, and that these facilities should be equipped to house companion animals.

As the Animal Justice Party candidate for Mount Gambier, he would advocate for a ban on duck shooting in the state, support efforts to restore and maintain local wetlands, advocate for elderly people living in aged care and their companion animals, and call for increased health funding in the region.

He enjoys reading and walking his adopted greyhound.
