Our Guide to the Animal Welfare Strategy Consultation

Live export... gas chambers... battery hen cages...

These are all allowed under our current legislation - partly because welfare standards do not fall under national legislation.

This is our chance to change that.

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) is renewing the Australian Animal Welfare Strategy, and they're seeking your input.

The Animal Welfare Strategy is the Federal Government's attempt to create one, unified national legislative framework to address animal welfare

This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to transform Australia's national approach to animal welfare.

We can't miss this chance to ensure Australian animals face a brighter future. To move towards a framework that doesn't view animals as property, ignore exemptions, create loopholes, or leave the very industries that harm animals in charge of regulating themselves.

You have an opportunity to have your say, by either contributing a submission or answering the Department's survey during this consultation process.

Submissions close on Sunday 30 June, 4pm AEST.

For details on the draft AWS, read the Australian Animal Welfare Strategy Discussion Paper.

You can complete a 'survey' or upload a 'submission' (or both!). When you're ready to submit, go to the website HERE.
